These totally adorable and super fun Spider Cookies come together in just minutes!
Hey, y'all! In case you couldn't tell by my last couple of posts, I'm totally into the fall spirit. This is my ultimate favorite time of year! I think what I love most about this season is the whimsy that surrounds it. Everything just gets cuter this time of year, am I right? I have to tell you a secret, my Rice Krispie Pumpkins, Super Spooky Rice Krispie Treats and my Ranch Flavored Pumpkin Seeds are just the beginning of my autumn shenanigans!
I have to be honest, we barely ever let our foster son have sugar. Sugar causes this boy to lose his damn mind. He has visitation with his parents twice a week and they load him up with sugar each visit. He gets so wired that he bounces of the wall when we get him back. He's even had so much chocolate once that he got sick. That being said, we obviously limit his sugar intake when he's with us. In fact, he's been with us for 2 months now and this is only the second time he has had a cookie.
He's had a particularly trying couple of weeks. His emotions have been all out of whack and he's regressed quite a bit so we wanted to do something different and fun with him. Ashley propped him up on the counter, we grabbed a mixing bowl and a package of sugar cookie mix and we got down to business. For this food activity, I simply used a pre-mixed package of sugar cookie dough, a can of frosting, gummy octopuses (which totally look like spiders to me) and candy eyes.
I let the little guy mix all of the cookie ingredients together and let the cookies bake until they were just starting to turn golden brown around the edges. Once they cooled off, it was time to get to business! I frosted each of the cookies, loaded them up with sprinkles and topped them with a gummy octopus. I used a tad bit of frosting to adhere a couple of eyes to each of the octopuses and presto! Instant spooky spider cookies!
Ingredients:
1 dozen sugar cookies (homemade or storebought)
1 container of frosting (I used purple because it reminds me of Halloween)
1 container of sprinkles
1 package gummy octopuses
1 package candy eyes
1 small tube of white frosting
Instructions:
1. Lay cookies on a piece of wax paper or parchment paper. Cover each cookie with the frosting of your choice.
2. Add sprinkles to the top of each cookie.
3. Place one gummy octopus on top of each cookie. Apply a small dot of white icing to the back of a candy eye and gently put it on the gummy.
