Celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday with this super fun Dr. Seuss inspired trail mix!

Hey, y’all! Did you know that tomorrow is Dr. Seuss’ birthday? Dr. Seuss is the beloved children’s author who wrote countless whimsical books such as “The Cat in the Hat”, “Green Eggs and Ham”, “Horton Hears a Who”, and “Hop on Pop.” Over his career, he releases more than 60 children's books under his pen name, Dr. Seuss.

Did you know that he was neither a doctor and his last name wasn’t Seuss? He was actually born Theodor Seuss Geisel. Another common misconception is the pronunciation of his name! According to the writer himself, his last name actually rhymes with “voice” rather than “moose”.

Each year students across the United States celebrate this incredible author’s birthday by reading his stories, snacking on Seuss-inspired foods and recreating their favorite characters with art activities. As a teacher, I love, love, love celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday!

This year, I’m teaching third grade so the kids aren’t as excited about Dr. Seuss’ birthday as my former students, but it’s still fun to celebrate! This year we will be making a Seuss’ Inspired Snack for them to munch on.

Our trail mix will feature goodies inspired by the following books:

Popcorn (Hop on Pop)

Trix Cereal (Representing the Truffula Trees from The Lorax)

Chocolate Teddy Grahams (Brown Bear Ba Loots also from The Lorax)

Honey Teddy Grahams (Representing all of the yellow fuzzy forest Seuss loves to include!)

Ingredients:

Popcorn

Gold Fish Crackers

Trix Cereal

Chocolate Teddy Grahams

Honey Teddy Grahams

Instructions:

1. Combine equal parts of all of the ingredients in a small bowl and serve.

Another great treat would be these strawberry pancake skewers that I shared earlier this week! The red strawberries and light colored pancakes remind me a lot of the Cat in the Hat!
