Hey, y'all! In case you couldn't already tell, I love a theme! I pulled out all of the stops for the 4th of July barbecue that I went to. I prepared some incredible, red, white, and blue themed dishes that were a little outside of the box. My broccoli salad, triple berry cheesecake, and cheesecake stuffed strawberries were all a hit. Yes... I made a red, white, and blue broccoli salad!
What I didn't share with you are the layered drinks I made! Lucky for you, and I, Labor Day is right around the corner and these drinks will be just as perfect for your Labor Day barbecue!
I wanted to make a drink that my nieces could enjoy too. I knew the minute that they saw us sipping on layered red, white, and blue drinks, laced with rum, they'd want to try it... especially the 3 1/2-year-old (she has a wild streak in her). The drinks use the same basic ingredients, cranberry juice cocktail, G2 Glacier Freeze, and SoBe Pina Colada (non-alcoholic). The only difference is that the grown up version has pineapple rum mixed in with it.
The science behind a layered drink is simple. The drink with the heaviest sugar content goes on the bottom. This can be said for any layered drink that you make. The other key is to use plenty of ice. Once you have your first layer down, and the ice in the glass, it's all about the speed of how quickly you add the remaining layers. Sound complicated? It's totally not! Once you have these basic principles down, the possibilities are endless!
Ingredients (for 3 cups):
1 cup cranberry juice
1 cup SoBe Pina Colada flavored drink
1 cup G2 Gatorade Glacier Freeze (the G2 has less sugar which is important for this to work)
Instructions:
1. Fill your glass 1/3 of the way with cranberry juice.
2. Fill the glass, to the top, with ice.
3 . Slowly add the remaining layers in to the glass.
Tips:
Pouring the last two layers over the back of a spoon will help slow down the speed of the liquid.
Pouring the last two layers directly over a piece of ice will help slow down the speed of the liquid.
Now that the kids had their mocktails it was time to spike the punch and get the party started. To turn these mocktails into cocktails, I simply added 1/2 oz of pineapple rum to each of the layers. Although I used rum, vodka would be delicious too!
Ingredients (for 3 cups):

1 1/2 oz pineapple rum
Instructions:
1. Pour 1/2 oz of pineapple rum and 1 cup of cranberry juice into a shaker. Shake until well combined. Fill your glass 1/3 of the way with the cranberry juice mixture.
2. Fill the glass, to the top, with ice.
3 . Pour 1/2 oz of pineapple rum and 1 cup of pina colada flavored drink into a shaker. Shake until well combined. Slowly add the layer in to the glass (see tips!).
4. Pour 1/2 oz of pineapple rum and 1 cup of G2 Glacier Freeze into a shaker. Shake until well combined. Slowly add the layer in to the glass (see tips!).
