Hello, friends! I've never claimed to be much of a baker. Baking is my mom's forte and it's something that I aim to get better at. But let's face it, at this point in my life, boxed mixes are still the way to go. Awhile back our family hosted A Night at the Oscars where we had a private screening of two of the Oscar-nominated movies. As soon as we started planning the event I knew I wanted to provide a popcorn and candy bar for our guests.
A couple of days before the grand event, I went out to dinner with my parents and asked if there was anything else I could bring. My mom mentioned that she was going to make up two batches of cupcakes. Knowing that she had a lot going on, I offered to make a batch of cupcakes. She agreed.
My gears started turning and I decided I wanted to make golden cupcakes with black bow ties to go along with the Oscar theme. To show you how little baking I do I called my mom to tell her I had to make mini cupcakes because I only had a mini cupcake tin and a muffin tin. She laughed at me and informed me that cupcake tins and muffin tins were the same thing.
Yeah... that happened.
I used a standard box mix and baked the mini cupcakes at 350 degrees for 9 minutes. After they cooled I covered them with a whipped white frosting.
Next I used Wilton's Gold Color Mist to give the white frosting a gold look.
Next, I tried my very best to create little bow ties using Wilton's Black Sparkle Gel.
They didn't turn out too bad for an amateur. Most people realized what they were... although a someone mentioned they looked like dog bones but whatever. I tried.
