Our Favorite Grown-Up Games

Hello, friends! If you're a M&M regular, you know that I love hosting parties at my house. My friends and I take turns hosting Grown-Up Game Night. It's an entire evening of eating, drinking, and antagonizing the crap out of each other. We're extremely competitive and like all great competitions, our game nights come complete with trophies! Yeah... we're that competitive!

Our Favorite Grown-Up Game Night Games

One of the key steps for hosting a game night is picking the right games. Think about your guests... if they are reserved, a game like Cards Against Humanity or Telestrations After Dark wouldn't be a good fit for them. If your guests don't really know each other well a game like Drunk, Stoned or Stupid definitely wouldn't be right for them. If you're friends are apprehensive about acting or looking like an idiot then you probably shouldn't pull out a game like Quelf or Murder Mystery.

Luckily for me, my friends are idiots. We don't care how we look and most of us are teachers so we crave attention. We all know each other pretty well so our options are endless.

I thought I'd share with you some of our favorite games. (This post contains affiliate links. To learn more click here.)

Cards Against Humanity- This is the game that started it all for us. A couple of years ago we hosted a Christmas party and I put this game on the kitchen table in case anyone felt like playing. By the end of the night there were about 16 people crowded around the table tossing cards around. This game is grossly inappropriate but it's always a crowd pleaser. My friends love this game! If you're unfamiliar with it, think Apples to Apples...but more vulgar.

Reverse Charades- This game is the perfect ice breaker! Split your guests up into 2 teams. Teammates act out a clue (shown to them by a member of the opposite team) while another team member tries to guess what they are trying to act out. Trust me, there is nothing more hilarious than watching a bunch of "grown-ups" jumping around and acting a fool. This may just be our new favorite party game!

Heads Up- We love this game just as much as Ellen DeGeneres does! Heads up involves acting out clues, singing sounds, and giving people clues as to the answers that they are wearing on their head. Each player wears a headband with 10 cards in it. They have until the timer is out of sand to guess as many of the answers on their headband as possible. For us, this game involves a lot of yelling, obnoxious humming, terrible singing and puzzled looks.

Catch Phrase- This game is similar to Heads Up minus the singing, humming or acting, Teams give each other clues, without using forbidden words, and try to get them to guess what phrase is on the electronic disk. Much like with Heads Up, this game usually ends up with us screaming, "HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW THIS??????"

Drunk, Stoned or Stupid- This game is perfect for a group of people that are extremely familiar with each other. In this game a person will read a scenario to the group. The group will then determine which person is most likely to fit that scenario.

Murder Mystery- Murder Mystery games are great for people who don't mind stepping into character. It's a lot of fun if everyone truly dedicate themselves to their parts in the ultimate game of "Who Done It?"

True American- True American isn't your traditional game. Think of it as a life-size, grown up version of Candyland with drinking, trivia and lots of yelling. We played this game at my Post-Election Party and it was a hit...once everyone finally loosened up. The rules are complicated, so much so that I actually created charts to hang around my living room explaining the rules. I won't go into the details... Google it, it's a blast!

Pictionary & Telestrations After Dark- Pictionary is a classic game night activity. We all know it and love it. When we play, it involves a ton of yelling and beating the white board with a marker. Who would have thought that such a civil game could cause so much frustration? If you're looking for a more grownup version of this game, consider Telestrations After Dark.
