Hey, y'all! We're back from our trip to Alaska, Washington state, British Columbia and The Yukon which means one thing, we're in full savings mode. Now that we've depleted our bank account, it's time to make the most of what money we have left. You see, I'm an elementary school teacher so summers are always a little tight around here.
When the temperatures go up, our bank balance seems to go down with all of our money going towards trying to keep our yard alive and battling the Florida heat with our air conditioning unit. I won't even get into the fact that we need another car now.
I'm sure many of you are in a similar predicament so I thought I would share with you some money saving tactics perfect for cutting costs during summer (or any time of the year, really!).
Keep your blinds closed and use black out drapes- this will help keep the hot, hot, heat out and save you money on your electric bill.
Close of the air conditioning vents in rooms that you don't use often.
Organize your pantry, fridge, and freezer so you know what groceries you have on hand, this will prevent you from overbuying groceries.
Hang a clothesline and let the sun dry your clothes for you
Forget buying fruits and veggies at the supermarket, head to your local farmer's market to stock up on your produce.
Take advantage of free fun (when you can) such as bicycling, visiting the beach or a lake, spending time at local parks and other free events. Summertime is full of fun, free activities for the whole family!
Since you've stocked up on fruits and veggies at the farmer's market, this is a great time to can summer produce for later!
You'll need to cool off after canning all of those fruits and veggies, make your own Popsicles or smoothies with some of the produce!
You can also use some of that fruit to infuse water! Say no to soda this summer to save money, lose weight and stay hydrated this summer!
Take your change to the bank!
Take advantage of local pools and water parks to cool down!
Many movie theaters offer discounted movies during the summer!
What are some of your tips and tricks to saving money during the summer? I'd love to hear them!
